Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Wins US National Critics Book Prize for “Americanah”

Ace Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is clearly having the best month of her life as she promotes her new book – “Americanah“.
Here’s another reason for her to go dancing in the wind - she has won the US National Critics Book Prize for her novel 'Americanah'.
The book was also selected as one of The New York Times’ 10 best books of 2013.
The National Critics Book Prize was first awarded in 1974 and is open to writers of all nationalities whose work has been published in the US.
Americanah was published in May 2013 by Alfred A. Knopf. It's a fictional novel that unravels the story of a young Nigerian woman who emigrates to America for a university education.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (born 15 September 1977) has been called "the most prominent" of a "procession of critically acclaimed young Anglophone authors [that] is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature", and her string of awards keep substantiating that claim.
Congratulations to her!

WAEC Cheats To Pay N200,000 Fine

Exam malpractice is getting the big hammer as a bill seeking to impose a N200,000 fine has passed 2nd reading in the House.
A bill seeking to provide N200,000 fine as penalty against examination malpractices has passed second reading at the House of Representatives on Thursday.
In sessions presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, the bill passed second reading in a unanimous voice vote.
Leading debate on the bill, House Leader, Mulikat Akande-Adeola, said Sections 20/21 of the Principal Act would be amended to incorporate the new fine.
Akande-Adeola said "because of the high incidences of examination malpractices" Section 19 of the WAEC Principal Act, be amended to "include illegal possession of examination papers" among punishable offences.
“Having fore-knowledge of the contents of an examination paper or makes use of an examination paper or the content of it in any manner whatsoever without lawful authority,” she said.
Hon Aikande-Adeola also alerted the House on the fact that Nigeria, despite being a major financier of WAEC, was yet to domesticate the 2013 Convention of the continental examination body.
Therefore, the bill also sought to domesticate it.
“Nigeria is the only country out of the five countries constituting the council’s membership that has not ratified the convention,” she said.
The amendment will thus provide penalties of up to N200,000 against offenders – an increase of 198,000 from the current N2,000 fine.
Speaker Tambuwal referred to the committee on education for further legislative action.

Baby Hello is an Uptempo, dance and strong Party track by Wande Coal that will keep you moving that will keep you moving from the moment you press the play button. I have a strong feeling this will be a big song for 2014, but only time will tell.

Back From Beyond?New Michael Jackson Album 'Xscape' to Be Released in May

Despite having been deceased for five years, Michael Jackson is still raking in the big bucks. The upcoming posthumous album titled “Xscape” looks to add a few more coins in the Jackson piggy bank. It was recently announced that “Xscape” will be released on May 13th.

The King of Pop lives on. Five years after his death, Epic Records, in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson, will release the posthumous album Xscape.
L.A. Reid has teamed with today’s top producers to “contemporize” songs from Jackson’s archive. The project features eight new tracks, which the world will be hearing for the very first time.
Timbaland serves as the album’s lead producer, with additional production from Stargate, Jerome “Jroc” Harmon, John McClain, and Rodney Jerkins, who “contemporized” the title track with Jackson in the studio.
“Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world,” said Epic chairman L.A. Reid. “Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world.”
In August, Timbaland announced plans for the album, and recently leaked a snippet of a song called “Slave to the Rhythm.”
Xscape will also be available as a deluxe edition, which includes all of the sourced recordings in their original form.
Pre-orders begin April 1 on iTunes, while the full album arrives on May 13.

Singer D’banj reportedly has plans to sue British tabloid Daily Mail, for deformation of character.
